SELECT FILM ARCHIVE

This page is a catalogue of select projects from our past to give insight into our earlier days. Although we have produced far more than what is listed here, we feel that these are the projects of note that played major roles in the evolution of Mixed Nuts into what it is today.

Our first feature film produced in 2005.

24 Hour Diner (2006)

A fun short we produced about one Jersey's favorite late night things to do socially: meet up with friends at a 24 hour diner. It was our first film to ever feature a celebrity: Michael Ray Bower.

Prayers (2004)

This was one of successful short films that made a big impact in student film festivals across the Philadelphia / New Jersey area, praised for its cinematography, dramatic lighting, and intense emotion and themes.

Produced in the summer of 2003, this mini-feature was our first ambitious long form film. It was the beginning of a new era with us being our first major project with the then new Panasonic DVX100. The experience of making The Single Guy taught us the ropes of what it takes to produce films with tight budgets on larger scales. We also got to travel to a couple film festivals and get some media coverage.

Job Interview (2004)
Official Selection: 2005 New Jersey Student Film Festival

This film was produced with Cinema Workshop at Rowan University, based on one of our original sketches from the early days of Mixed Nuts in the late 90s.

MOCKY (2004)
Keeping with the tradition of our beginnings and love for the art of parody, not to mention our love for the Rocky films and the city of Philadelphia, we decided to produce this good natured parody on the spot. We took the camera into the City of Brotherly Love on a beautiful May afternoon and shot this, which has been welcomed with fanfare by Rocky fans on YouTube.

It was also enjoyed by internet celebrity and Rocky enthusiast James Rolfe of Cinnemassacre Productions (AKA: The Angry Video Game Nerd). He wrote in an email to us: "Thanks! Checked out your film, definitely shows a love for Rocky." Rolfe also produced the Rocky documentary Rocky Jumped a Park Bench, screened at the Philadelphia Film Festival.

Dirty Socks (2001)
First Place Music Video: 2003 Garden State Film Festival
Honorable Mention: 2002 Derek Freese High School Video Contest

Our extremely popular sequel to Buy Buy Buy, parodying *NSync's single "Pop." It would be our first project on digital non-linear editing systems. Dirty Socks quickly overshot Buy Buy Buy's success by playing in multiple film festivals, winning awards, and gaining national attention from the king of silly songs, Dr. Demento, who loved our video and song so much, that he wrote back to us saying "Hilarious! [I] wish I had a TV Channel- I'd put the video into heavy rotation." He played the song itself multiple times on his nationally syndicated radios how.

Buy Buy Buy (2001)
Official Selection: 2004 Philadelphia Youth Media Jam

One of our most popular projects, topped only by that of its sequel, Dirty Socks. We rewrote the lyrics to *NSync's ridiculous popular single "Bye Bye Bye" and recorded our own version. The music video garnered national attention when aired on MTV's Total Request Live on August 2, 2001, the day after MTV's 20th Anniversary. This video was also the last project we edited on linear tape-to-tape based editing systems.

The Wishing Well (2004)
Notable as the first project that dealt with special effects.

Case Study: Man Attemps to Mate (2003)
Notable as the first project we shot with the (at the time) brand new Panasonic DVX100.

Bench Warmer (2002)
Official Selection: 2003 Philadelphia Youth Me
dia Jam

One of our first original shorts that wasn't a music video, parody, or sketch based on pre-existing material. We continue to reference Bench Warmer in flicks like The Single Guy and Township. To add to it, we always make sure to shoot a scene in every project we have done since around the general area we shot Bench Warmer.

-Screened at the Pitman Broadway Theater on Friday, August 1, 2003 for the Local Spotlight Film Festival!
-Screened at the Philadelphia Youth Meida Jam on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the Prince Music Theater

Noah's Ark (2002)
Honorable Mention: 2002 Derek Freese High School Video Contest

Written and Directed by Mixed Nuts original, Adam Meisel, this very short film gained a lot of praise and recognition for its clever take on the legendary Biblical story through the eyes of 4-year-old Timmy. It was originally concieved to be part of a larger collection of short films called The Bibble but was eventually abandoned.

-Invited and Screened at the Youth Media Jam Video Slam on May 18th at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia
- Screened at the Garden State Film Festival on March 26, 2004

Circle of Life: Lion King Parody (2000)
Produced as the opener to the season 5 premiere of WTHS Monthly Rewind, this video quickly became popular and gained recognition throughout the state with the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival. This also became our first experience in a film festival of any kind. It was praised for being a loyal parody to The Lion King along with its variety of camera angles.

-Won first place at the 2001 Gloucester County Teen Arts Festival
-Shown at the State Teen Arts Festival

My World (2000)
Our first music video was for our very own song, "My World," which has lived on in our flicks throughout the years, including a re-recording in 2003 and a revamped version called "Tribue to My World" in our first feature, Township.

When Toys Attack (2000)
Our high school years produced several bizarre short videos that dealt with conspiracy theories of missing McDonalds restaurants and beating random people with lead pipes. This lead to a short called When Toys Attack which was our first real adventure into the world of linear tape-to-tape editing machines.

A Search Into Destiny (1998 - 1999)
This was our first attempt at doing a long form movie apart from 5 minute sketches. We made it at the end of our middle school years into the beginning of high school.

We began as many young filmmakers do: a group of friends who played with the video camera. We made primarily short form comedy sketches in the vein of Saturday Night Live, Kids in the Hall, and Monty Python's Flying Circus. This culminated in near 3 hours of complete and utter zaniness, culminating the bulk of our middle school years (1995 - 1999).
