Prayers In Film Festivals

Jeff discusses Prayers and it's experiences on the big screen

There is a juggernaut sweeping along the silver screens of the mid-Atlantic United States.

Central Jersey was conquered with a sword in one hand and a Panasonic AG-DVX100 24p Cinema Mini-DV camera in the other as the latest work of Michael A. left the audience in Jackson Memorial High School in a dead silence. The conquest continued two weeks later as it moved south to the City of Brotherly Love and led the audience in the Prince Music Theater to erupt in applause of unbridled approval (after the same deadening quiet).

This latest work would just so happen to be a film entitled Prayers, and it is making quite an impression on audiences.

Still from Prayers

Prayers is both a beautiful and frightening look at violence with no apparent motive and blind faith in a critical time of need. The gorgeous and talented Kristin turns in a strong performance and newcomer Scott Skversky stomps onto the scene and screams, "I AM A MIXED NUT - NOW LIKE IT!" Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Philly serves as the beautifully stunning backdrop and will leave you with a new appreciation for the Eastern Rite. I myself feel like less of a human being for being a member of the Latin Rite. I've been cheated! Anger! Discontent!

A dignifying moment for Jeff after a festival

Prayers in its own little way continues the deepening of Mixed Nuts Productions, which started with The Class Ring and continued with the more recent The Single Guy as Michael A. expands his horizons beyond comedy. But this is not only a continuing of this so called "deepening," it’s a statement by Michael A., it’s a statement that he's here to stay and he's got a lot of soul searching to do. You may just want to stick around for this.

Soon the whole world will know what Central Jersey and Philadelphia already do: Prayers is a film to be reckoned with, and will soon conquer all of the country's independent and amateur screens.

And the juggernaut moves on.
